The Traveling Trio - A Virtual TourBy Lynne Marascalco
GES & GUES Librarian
The first season of the Traveling Trio is now available to GES through a donation in memory of Dr. Linda Wyman, who was the sister of Mrs. Eloise Portera. The Traveling Trio is an adventure –filled educational series hosted by three siblings; twelve year old Olivia and her ten year old twin brothers Ingram and Everett. The trio present the geography, history, language and culture of famous landmarks and off-the –beaten-path attractions. Each of the twelve half hour episodes grab the attention of children because it is presented to them by children.
“It is an upbeat fast paced travel show for children, teaching them about places and cultures that would interest them if they were there themselves” according to GES Librarian Lynn Marascalco. In its first season it has won a nomination for an Emmy in outstanding children’s programming, the International Communicator Award; Hermes Creative Award, Parent’s Choice Silver Award, The Telly Award, and the Seal of the Parents Television Council.
The goals of the program are:
• The “rest of the world” is worth seeing and acceptance of the history and differences helps us to understand who we are today and where our society is headed.
• An understanding that all people have the same basic needs and that mankind must strive towards cooperation and peace on a global scale.
The program airs on PBS or can be seen by students in classrooms or at the GES Library.
