GHS National Merit Finalists...
Grenada High School is proud to announce the advancement of two students Randy Waldo, left, and Charlie Worsham, right, to the status of 2004 National Merit finalist. Principal Dr. Tom Taylor, center, congratulates the two outstanding scholars. This distinction places them in a group of 15,000 students representing less than one percent of U.S. high school graduating seniors. The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955.
High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT, a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.3 million entrants each year, and by meeting published program entry/participation requirements. The National Merit Program is privately financed and the majority of scholarships offered are underwritten by some 550 independent sponsor organizations and institutions. Three types of Merit Scholarships will be presented, the National Merit $2,500 Scholarships, Corporate Sponsored Merit Scholarship Awards, and college-sponsored Merit Scholarships.
