National Merit Scholar Recognized
A GHS student graduating with honors from the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science has earned the prestigious honor of being named a National Merit Scholar. The National Merit Scholarship Program is a United States academic scholarship competition for recognition and college scholarships administered by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), a privately funded, not-for-profit organization begun in 1955. Of the 1.5 million entrants, about 50,000 qualify for recognition and only approximately 10,500 scholarships awarded.
She achieved this designation as a National Merit Scholar based upon her outstanding score on the PSAT and a detailed application process. As a result of this honor, she will receive the National Merit Scholarship of $2,5000, as well as, other scholarships recognizing her attainment of this status. The University of Mississippi has offered her around $16,000 in scholarships and an opportunity to participate in the early entry pharmacy program.
She states, “I am grateful I have had opportunities that have allowed me to be successful throughout high school and to set me on the right path to earning money for college. I believe the hard work and dedication that has pushed me to excel in high school will also help me flourish in my next stage of education, and I am excited to face the new challenges that are ahead of me.”
