Visions Greatest Hits
Grenada High School’s Visions show choir consists of 40 members, with talents ranging from singing, dancing, instrumental performance, expertise with sound equipment, staging and lighting. Visions performs at local events, nursing homes, local club meetings, and national events. This year, Visions was invited to be the featured entertainment for The Grenada Area Chamber of Commerce 2011 Annual Banquet. Visions also performs out of state and most recently performed in Branson, Missouri; Disney World; and on board the Carnival Cruise Ship, The Elation. Last year, the group placed 2nd overall in the South Jones Invitational Show Choir Competition.
Senior members of the 2011 Visions show choir include Ana Katelyn Habig, Victoria Grant, Antonio Small, Dylan Perry, Marktavis Herrod, and Rac’Quis Tidwell. Junior members are Dani Denley, Kaitlin Harrison, Karen Chan, Lorrin Marter, Olivia Worthy, Tysheann Grant, Chace Holland, and Jerry Clark. Sophomore members include Cassidy Darbonne, Hannah Thomas, Mary Courtney Self, Austin Rideout, Michael Hankins, Smiley Arrington, and Shane Harbin. Freshman members are Bethany Moore, Kaylie Allen, Kayla Redditt, Sarah Kate Griffin, Sydney Reid, Paige Porter, and Mitchell Sones. Crew members and assistants include Alex Ballard, Davis Byrd, Logan Wells, Willie Garret, Mary Kate Livingston, Mallory Carrithers, and Mallory McWhorter. Visions performs under the leadership of of Jenni McCrory, Director; Kim Porter, Assistant Director; Jan Walton, Costume Director; and Mandy Bell, Choreographer.
Visions members maintain an overall 3. 58 GPA (6 members have a 4.0) with 11 members in the National Honor Society, and 18 members consistently named to the Grenada High School Honor Roll. Members are involved in sports (tennis, football, track, softball, and soccer), cheerleading, GHS band, and serve as class officers and student council members. Many are active in the Anchor Club, 4-H Leadership, Key Club, DECA, Excell Club, SADD, Art Club, ROTC, Mu Alpha Theta, and the French Club. Several members even have the distinction of being named as Congressional Award Medalists and as 100 Scholars. All Visions members participate in the 4-H Expressive Arts Club. Most also participate musically in various church groups.
While each individual group member takes part in many activities, Visions as a whole is most noted for their outstanding Christmas and Spring shows performed right in our hometown of Grenada. This year’s show, entitled Visions’ Greatest Hits, promises to be the best show yet! The songs for the new show were chosen based on requests generated from the public. Greatest Hits encompasses selections from previous years’ Visions productions as well as new songs popular with this generation.
Performances ranging from rock to country to Christmas to Hip Hop make up the program in the new show. Favorite songs from past Visions performances include Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, The Devil Went Down to Georgia, Hard Knock Life, and Love Shack. Other selections will feature performances by GSD students from the GUES, GES, and GMS. Visions’ Greatest Hits concert times are as follows: • Senior Citizen Matinee – Thursday, May 5th at 2:00p.m. • General Audience – Thursday, May 5th and Friday, May 6th at 7:00p.m.
Tickets may be purchased in advance for $5.00 from any Visions member, Johnnie Harrison (GES), Jenni McCrory (GUES), Debbie Thomas (GMS), Kim Porter (GHS), Dolly’s, Regions Bank Plaza Branch, and GSD Administrative Office.
