NNDCC (National Naval Defense Cadet Corps) First Physical Training ChallengeThe Grenada High School chapter of the NNDCC (National Naval Defense Cadet Corps started the school year off with a bang this year! This past week they attended their first Physical Training (PT) challenge. The challenge, held at Warren Central High School in Vicksburg, Mississippi, attracted 30 teams from 7 different schools in Mississippi. Schools attending included Biloxi, Crystal Springs, Germantown, Grenada, Florence, Hazelhurst, Oachita, and Warren Central.
ROTC chapters from the Navy, Marines, Army, and Air Force competed against each other in numerous events including Tire Roll, Sit Ups, Relays, Sand Bag Run, Litter Carry, and Tug of War. When all the different branches of ROTC corps gather together, the competition is fierce! Each school’s cadets participated in all events, and scores were tallied in categories – Male, Female, and Coed. Grenada High School rose to the occasion and came away with three trophies.
The team of Hansen Bennett, Anfernee Clemons, Zavion Daniel, Paul Ferguson, Matthew Johnson, Johnathan Lee, Kurt Livingston, Tekia Owens, Myka Smith, and Darion Woodard captured second place in the Tug of War challenge. The Tug of War team from Grenada was undefeated four times in a row, only losing in the last battle to bring home the second place trophy. Members of Grenada’s Bravo Team “mixed it up” to place fifth in the coed challenge competition. The females of the company also posted impressive performances to place fifth in the female division of competition.
Members of Grenada’s NNDCC Bravo Company Physical Training team included Peyton Atkins, Ashley Bacon, Brittany Bess, Catarrus Black, Caleb Blair, Angelique Brown, Candice Clarke, Jeremiah Corey, Robert Evans, Emma Fleming, Dallin Foreman, Portia Fox, Jamilha Govan, Lakesha Harbin, Malika Herrod, Adrian Martin, James McCarroll, Travon Parker, Christopher Payton, Lajarvas Simpson, Arayah Sims, Dylan Smith, Alteesha Thompson, Quanisha Travis, Devin Wiggins, Chance Wortham, and Ariona Yates, plus the members of the Tug of War team.
