GHS Credits and Electives

Students at Grenada High School must earn a total of 24 class credits in order to graduate.  Several of these classes are required, such as English I – IV, Algebra I, and Biology, to name a few.  Students may choose options for other classes as long as they fall within the categories defined.  Graduation requirements include:

    • English                                  4 credits
    • Mathematics                         4 credits
    • Social Studies                      4 credits
    • Science                                  4 credits
    • The Arts                                  1 credit
    • Business  & Tech.                 1 credit (1 Computer Discovery or ½ Keyboard / ½ Computer Applications)
    • Health                                      ½ credit
    • Physical Education              ½ credit
    • Electives                                  4 credits

The electives credit requirement allows students some freedom to choose classes geared towards their personal interests rather than classes required by the State.  One such class is Drama II.  Students enrolled in Drama II must have earned an “A” average in Drama I to be eligible for the class.  The class offers students the opportunity to delve more deeply into acting and play production.  Students serve as production managers for a performance presented to the student body during the school year.  Students may also be required to attend dramatic performances outside the school. Only students in grades 11 – 12 are eligible for this class.

The 2013 – 2014 Drama II class will present its production this Friday during Activity Period in the Grenada High School Auditorium. Entitled Hex Marks the Spot, the play features normal high school girl, Jean Emery, whose world is turned upside down when she receives a letter from an eccentric aunt claiming she has magical powers and the ability to grant wishes.  Jean dismisses the letter as a joke until her rival gains possession of the letter and uses it to blackmail her.  Neither Jean nor her rival believes for a moment that the crazy story could possibly be true – or could it?  What kind of disasters could happen if everyone were to suddenly get exactly what they wished for?

Members of the Drama II class include Sierra Alldread, Chelsea Barrow, Nyterica Braxton, Kei Kei Dorris, Sedrick Driver, Portia Fox, Dre House, Kiara Johnson, Davida Jones, Alexia Moss, Ladarion Purnell, Kiarah Rounds, Tanaya Singleton, Jamie Tedder, and Meriah Willis.

Grenada High School students as well as parents and community members will be given the opportunity to attend Hex Marks the Spot Friday, January 10, 2014, in the Grenada High School Auditorium.  The curtain opens at 8:30a.m.  Admission is $3.00.
