GCTC DECA attends Marketing Conference in Orlando, Florida


Students from the Grenada Career and Technical Center (GCTC) DECA club recently attended the Sports and Entertainment Marketing Conference in Orlando, Florida. DECA is an international marketing association of high school and college students and teachers that prepares leaders and entrepreneurs for careers and education in marketing, finance, hospitality, management, and other business areas. The students involved in DECA at GCTC plan to embark on careers in these fast-paced fields.

Orlando, considered one of the world’s premier locations for family entertainment and home to world-class professional and college sports, provided the perfect backdrop for this dynamic conference experience. When it comes to learning from the professionals, this event tops the bucket list of entrepreneurs aiming to compete in the fields of sports and entertainment marketing.

Students attending the conference gained an insider’s perspective as the theme parks became a living classroom that complemented the note-worthy messages from conference speakers. The conference, which reinforced concepts taught in students’ marketing classes at GCTC, lasted two days. While at the conference, which was held at Universal Studios, attendees also enjoyed Universal and Disney parks, and attended a performance of the Blue Man Group.

Those attending the conference included Alexis Adams, Kristian Alexander, Alexis Brown, Alex Ferguson, Chelsey Flynn, Kelvin Mallett, Gracie Miller, and Natalie Simmons. The group was chaperoned by Meg Newcomb, DECA sponsor and Grenada Career and Technical Center Business Fundamentals and Marketing instructor.
