Recently, the Grenada High School and Middle School campuses were filled with 20 bands from around the region as Grenada High School hosted the Region 2 MHSAA State Marching Evaluation and the Grenada Lake Marching Classic. Over 2,600 performers, dozens of band directors, and thousands of spectators from Desoto County to Webster County and throughout Northwest Mississippi came to Grenada for adjudication on the state level and to support their communities. The bands received a numerical rating from 1-4 that corresponds with their level of performance: 1 – Superior, 2 – Excellent, 3 – Fair, 4 – Poor. All bands were judged by a panel of six judges consisting of three overall band judges, one color guard judge, one percussion judge, and one drum major judge.
For the 35th consecutive year the Grenada Bands received All Superior ratings. The judges were of the highest quality and traveled to Grenada from throughout the Southeast for the competition. The band directors are extremely proud of the students’ performance and hard work throughout the year. The band staff would also like to thank all administrators and the band booster organization for their help in the orchestration of the festival. Without these supporters the festival would not have been possible.
The Grenada Band program boasts a full schedule this year. On October 18, the GHS Band travels to Memphis, Tennessee, to compete in the Briarcrest Marching Invitational. Next, on October 20, the ever-popular Grenada Bands’ “Band Night” will be held at Charger Field.
