First Nine Weeks of 2015

It’s fantastic! It’s amazing! It’s almost unbelievable! Did you realize that the first nine weeks of the 2105-2016 school year ends this week?

As crazy as it might seem, students in the Grenada School District will take their first nine-weeks’ exams this week. Time is racing away like a freight train, gathering speed, and hurtling us towards the end of the first semester. Before you know it, Christmas will be here (I know, it actually hurts to think about it, doesn’t it?).

During exam week, each school sets its own daily testing schedule. Students and faculty at Grenada High School began the week with two days of review. Actual exams are scheduled to begin on Wednesday.

The GHS exam schedule is:
• Wednesday – 2nd, 4th, and 6th period exams
• Thursday – 1st and 5th period exams
• Friday – 3rd and 7th period exams

Grenada Middle School began actual testing on Monday, October 5 with History and tested today in Science. Exams scheduled for the rest of the week include: • Wednesday -Language Arts
• Thursday - Math
• Friday – STEM

Grenada Upper Elementary exam schedule is as follows:
• Tuesday – Math
• Wednesday – Reading
• Thursday – Science

Make sure students taking exams get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast each day. These two actions help students stay alert and focused during exams. It’s also very important for students to be present on the day their exams are scheduled. Making up exams is hard for everyone involved. It takes away from a student’regular class time and puts students at a disadvantage. Regular attendance at school is important every day but is extremely important during exam time.

After exams, the next big item on the agenda is the Region II, MHSAA State Marching Band Contest scheduled for Saturday, October 10. Twenty-two bands, consisting of over 2300 students from the Northwest region of Mississippi will compete in Grenada at the GHS Charger Stadium. The first band performs at 11:00a.m. and the last band takes the field at 5:45p.m. The award-winning GHS Marching Band will perform in Class 5A evaluation at 3:45p.m. An admission fee of $8.00 will be charged at the gate, and the public is invited to attend. Each band will be evaluated by six judges and a timing official. Ratings for Classes 2A and 3A will be announced at 1:00p.m., and ratings for classes 4A, 5A, and 6A will be announced at 6:15p.m.

After nine weeks tests and a weekend of band competition, students, faculty, and administration in the Grenada School District will enjoy Fall Break, scheduled for Monday, October 12. Students will be dismissed from class on that day and will return to class on Tuesday, October 13. Please watch for students outside enjoying the lovely autumn weather as you travel around town on this date. Happy Fall, Ya’ll!
