Memories of John Wayne Haddock
By Cindy Willis
John Wayne did everything for us. He drove a bus, unloaded equipment, helped place equipment on the field, followed us to the bank to make deposits, watched over the concession stand, and mentored our students.
When things got too tense at competitions he would always make me laugh. He was always here as a friend to all of us. When the band went to Disney a number of years ago, someone stole all of one of the students’ money from the bus when they were performing. John Wayne asked her how much money she had lost. When she told him, he took that much out of his billfold in cash and gave it to her. She told him she would pay him back and he told her to forget it. He just wanted her to have fun. That’s the way he was with all of our students.
The collection boxes are at the high school, middle school, band hall, bus shop, and central office and will remain there until November 17th. On that date the boxes of food will be donated to the food pantry in his honor.
