GMS Showchoir Students Attend Mississippi Sings


What is Mississippi Sings?
Mississippi Sings is a concert that introduced Mississippi students (K-8) to great Mississippi musicians, to different music genres, and gave them the opportunity to sing together as large concert group.

Where is Mississippi Sings?
The program was held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Thalia Mara Hall in Jackson, MS.

Who were the guests at Mississippi Sings?
The featured guests included The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Crafton Beck, Ballet Mississippi, MC-James Anderson, Slide Show by Suzi Altman, The Bluegrass Appeal Band, Guy Hovis, an on-stage children’s choir, and Gail Jabour, composer of Mississippi, My Home.

How were the students prepared?
The students, directed by Gail Jabour, sang accompanied by the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. Students practiced before attending. The Sing Along songs were, Star Spangled Banner, Mississippi Mud, Cream of the Crop, Delta Blues, Folk Medley, What A Wonderful State, and God Bless the USA.

What is the purpose of Mississippi Sings?
This program introduced the students to the magic of music in new ways and made them proud to be a Mississippian. They sang with the Mississippi Symphony and met famous Mississippians face to face. This year’s program focused on “Blues, Bluegrass and More - Mississippi Sights and Sounds”.
