End of School Near
Spring signals the beginning of the end for students in the Grenada School District. The beginning of the end of school that is!
Spring semester is an extremely busy time of year at all of the schools in our district. Awards day activities, state testing, and graduation, just to name a few; all add to the hectic pace felt by students, teachers, and administrators as they race towards the end of the year.
Each school in the Grenada School District holds its own awards day where students receive honors for exceptional academics and outstanding musical or athletic abilities. Grenada High School band students were honored yesterday morning for outstanding achievement with a breakfast in the GHS cafeteria. GHS honors its scholars this evening at 7:00p.m. in the GHS Auditorium. Athletes at Grenada High will be honored on May 10.
Outstanding academic students in grades 2 – 3 were treated to breakfast with the Superintendent last week at the GES cafeteria, while exceptional students in grades 4 – 12 were honored in the GHS cafeteria the following day. The number of academically talented students in the district has increased to a size that cannot be accommodated in one cafeteria – a good problem to have according to one GSD administrator! This is the second year in a row that the Superintendent’s Breakfast has required two different venues.
Grenada Middle School band students attended an awards breakfast yesterday to recognize outstanding members. GMS honors its outstanding athletes and exceptional academic students on April 21.
Grenada Upper Elementary school will honor its top students on May 17 at the following times: 9:00a.m. - 4th grade; 10:00a.m. - 5th grade; and 11:00a.m. – Multiage students.
State testing begins at Grenada High School on April 27 with the SATP English II multiple-choice exam. Tenth grade students took the English II writing exam previously. On April 28, GHS students tackle the Algebra I SATP exam, and on April 29 the U.S. History test. After a weekend break, which includes the highly anticipated Senior Prom, GHS students conclude testing with the Biology SATP exam on May 3.
After state testing, only one hurdle stands in the way of graduation for seniors. Scheduled for May 11, 12, and 13, senior exams signal the end of an era for our seniors. After completion of exams, seniors pick up report cards and attend graduation practice on May 17, then practice again on May 18. If needed, they will practice again on May 19. Graduation is scheduled for 6:00p.m. on May 20 with a rain date of May 21.
Many other activities are scheduled between now and the end of the school year. Calendars with events may be located at the Grenada School District website: www.gsd.k12.ms.us.
