GCTC Craft Committee Dinner a Success!

By Kaye Dorroh
and Bonnie Brunt

The Grenada Career and Technical Center (GCTC) hosted its annual Craft Committee dinner on November 15, 2011, at the GCTC. Each program instructor invited business and community leaders to serve on an advisory committee that met before dinner to discuss ideas and recommendations related to the skilled profession being taught. The purpose of this partnership between the Career and Technical training programs and the business and community leaders is to provide a means for ongoing collaboration, to insure the relevance of instruction to business and industry needs, and to promote public awareness of the Career and Technical programs being offered.

After the advisory committee meetings, the thirty participants enjoyed a delicious dinner catered by Catfish Corner with desserts following the meal. Meg Newcomb, Business and Marketing Fundamentals Instructor and coordinator of this function, asked Dr. Cliff Craven, GCTC Director, to assist her in conducting the drawing for the door prizes. Among the door prizes were an Adirondack chair made and donated by the Building and Construction students and a bottle tree made and donated by the Welding students. Other prizes furnished by GCTC programs included a Cajun turkey, a full body massage gift certificate, a jump drive storage device, t-shirts, and baskets.
Dr. Craven expressed gratitude to all those who attended the dinner by stating, “This was by far the best turn out in the six years I have been here. I am extremely pleased with the amount of support that our community displayed tonight. It is a great example of how our community, administration, teachers, staff, and students pulling together can make a difference. This can only positively affect our students and center. Thank you all for attending and I look forward to working with the leadership of our community.”
