iBo Surrell, Grenada School District Business Manager, was recently honored as Mississippi’s Outstanding Business Official of the Year. Recognized by SASBO (Southeastern Association of School Business Officials) and selected by the State Association, Surrell will also be honored at the upcoming national conference in North Carolina. As part of this recognition, his expenses are paid to the April conference and a student will receive a $250.00 scholarship in his name. The scholarship is made possible by SASBO’s partnership with the American Fidelity Assurance Company.
“Many public school districts in Mississippi are fortunate to have very capable and dedicated financial directors,” says Surrell. “ I feel honored to be recognized by such as prestigious group. I am grateful to have been affiliated with the individuals in Mississippi and Southeastern Associations for the past 25 years.”

Surrell is a 1971 graduate of Winona High School and a 1983 graduate of Millsaps College. He began his career in 1983 with the State Auditor’s Office and became the Business Manager of Grenada School District in 1986. He served as President of MASBO (Mississippi Association of School Business Officials) in 1995. His outstanding accounting procedures with Grenada Schools have garnered yearly awards from the State Auditor’s Office. He has received a Certificate for Recognizing Achievement in Financial Reporting annually since 1989 and a Certificate for Recognizing Fixed Asset Management since the award’s inception.
