Grenada Band Plans for a Busy Year
The Grenada High Band is working diligently to complete and refine the entire marching show in preparation for contests. The fall marching competitions are looming closer, and the students are excited about the upcoming contests. (The fall contest schedule is posted on the band website.)
The first competitive event is the Mississippi High School Activities Region II Marching Festival on October 8 to be hosted in Grenada. Twenty area schools are scheduled to participate. That night, Grenada Band will compete in a United States Scholastic Band Association event in Cordova, Tennessee. On the 15th of October, the band will travel to West Memphis, Arkansas, to the West Memphis Marching Classic. The first overnight competition trip will be on October 22nd, as the band travels to Rome, Georgia, for the Peach State Marching Festival. November the 5th is the final competition for the year, a United States Scholastic Band Association competition held in Chattanooga, Tennessee, an overnight trip as well.
Our other bands are busy as well. On October 14th the 8th Grade Band will perform at the Southaven football game. Band Night on October 17th will provide performances from all of our bands and will be the first performance for our 6th Grade Band. Great raffle prizes will be offered so we invite the community to attend and support our band students.
After marching season, the Band Program will continue to work hard as the concert season begins. The 6th Grade Band and the High School Jazz Band will perform their Christmas Concert on November 29th. The 7th, 8th and High School Bands will march in the Grenada Christmas Parade on December 6th.
