Softball Coach Celebrates 100 Wins
Every
aspiring athlete has the opportunity to participate in a competitive
sports program in the Grenada School District. The wide variety of athletic
programs provides the individual student with the option to select from
numerous sports. Our award-winning athletic
program encompasses football, tennis, basketball, baseball, track, slow-pitch
and fast-pitch softball, soccer, powerlifting, and golf.
The Chargers Athletic Program is the occupant of an 8,000 square foot athletic field house which opened in 1999. The multi-purpose structure supports a variety of functions. This complex houses three dressing rooms, an indoor practice facility, indoor batting cages, a weight room, and coaches’ offices
Expectations of success run deep at Grenada High School. Past team state championships include girls track, slow-pitch softball, boys basketball and powerlifting. Individual state champions have also come from tennis, boys track and powerlifting. Teams in the other sports annually compete deep into the state playoffs.
For the younger student-athlete interscholastic competition is provided at the middle school level in football, soccer, basketball, softball, track, tennis, baseball and golf. Participation in a variety of programs is encouraged by both coaches and administrators, nurturing qualities of responsibility, leadership, and good sportsmanship.
Since 2006, major upgrades have been added to the district’s athletic stadiums. Chairback seating, new fencing, and a state-of-the-art score-board have been added to the Lady Charger’s softball field, making it a top high school venue in the Southeast.
Improvements to the baseball field have included 150 chairback seats and a new wooden outfield fence, with plans to add an additional 150 chairback seats in the visitors’ section, making the stadium a premier location for high school baseball.
