GSD Attains Record-Breaking High Performing Status
The official test data recently received from the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has designated Grenada School District as High Performing for the first time in our academic history! This academic performance label is applied by MDE’s accountability system, and defines GSD as one of the top districts in Mississippi! MDE’s accountability system compares student results to measure academic achievement through a system allocating “QDI” (Quality Distribution Index) points to schools and districts. Our District has gained 7 QDI points this year, placing our District’s score seventeen QDI points above the State average!
In addition to GSD’s designation as a High Performing District, we have additional academic achievements to celebrate. Compared to statistics from 2005, GSD has achieved a 17% decrease in dropouts, a 23% increase in the completion rate, and a 21.2% increase in the graduation rate.
We are so proud of the efforts of all of our students and staff! These achievement results have been obtained through collaborations of teachers and administrative staff to increase our students’ levels of learning. Careful planning, organization, addressing our academic goals through a variety of methods, and an immense amount of focus from faculty, administration, and students have resulted in our high achievements. Tutoring programs, subject area remediation, and positive behavioral classroom management are several initiatives that have contributed to our growth. Teaching the curriculum objectives, targeted on-going testing, and meticulous analysis of test data enables our teachers and staff to constantly monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed.
Our ongoing goals and commitment for progress for every student at every school drive our quest for excellence. Educational achievement provides the vehicle for success for our students and our County in today’s economy, giving all of our community’s children the foundation for a successful life. Our District’s achievements are the result of our focused goals and hard work. We are looking forward to continued growth in the 2012-13 school year!
