Facilities Updated

The 2012-13 school year has begun, the culmination of a busy summer for our administrative team and our transportation and maintenance departments. Preparing for the arrival of students on the first day of school requires a lot of behind-the-scenes planning and development from a lot of summer staff to ensure a successful school year.  This summer, in addition to the annual selection of new staff, organizing schedules and calendars, maintenance of equipment, and cleaning of facilities, we have undertaken several large repairs and renovations throughout the District.

Several facilities received parking lot resurfacing this summer.  The High School, Career and Technical Center, Elementary, Upper Elementary, and the Ninth Grade Building each received repairs and upgrades in their parking areas.  In most cases, the resurfacing repaired existing lots, but new surfaces were added to lots at the Ninth grade Building and High School to expand parking capabilities in those areas.

New softball facilities have been developed in the old Central Office Complex.  The renovated area, sporting GHS colors of red and blue, will serve as dressing rooms, office, and an exercise space.

The hallways of Grenada High School are brighter and more cheerful, thanks to a new coat of paint supplied by our maintenance department.  The walls, doors, and trim received a facelift that welcomed students to a new year.

The Athletic Complex has received an update, with air conditioning added to the facility.  The seventh and eighth grade football facility has also been renovated and the GHS Basketball Court has received upgrades.

The District is also in the process of changing from two to three lanes at Highway 51 and Charger Drive and installing a message center.  This will enable us to post events more effectively and provide community updates as needed.

Tie Plant School, housing GED and Alternative Programs has also received upgrades.  The floor tile in the halls, classrooms and auditorium has been replaced, providing a new, fresh appearance.

The driving forces getting our facilities and buses ready are: Jeff Pickle, Director of the Maintenance Department, Clarence Smith, Director of Custodial Services, and Benji Britt, Director of Transportation.  These staff members have worked all summer to implement our repairs and upgrades to provide the optimum learning environment for our students.  We are looking forward to a successful year!
