AmeriCorps Continues to Serve Community
By Jon Haimes
AmeriCorps Director
The GSD Learning Quilt, otherwise known as AmeriCorps of Grenada, continues have a positive impact upon the academic achievements of students within the Grenada School District. Currently we are in our fourth year, and data has shown that students who have received tutoring from AmeriCorps members have dramatically increased their academic skills. In addition to the academic reinforcement to students, AmeriCorps members continue to be active in community service within Grenada.
Recently, I have featured a different Grenada AmeriCorps member each day during November for our first “Days of Thanksgiving” campaign. Members were highlighted with a brief article about their interests and their impact as national service members. Please view our “Days of Thanksgiving” articles at our website, www.servegrenada.com.
Members of our Program must earn 1,724 service hours. Currently we have twenty-eight members serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade within the Grenada School District and participating in events throughout the community.
If you have been impacted by an AmeriCorps member, please inform us. You may send an email to jonhaimes@hotmail.com. These stories and accolades will be shared throughout our service term.
